VUCA and the pandemic

One example of VUCA environment is the current situation we are living due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a public healthy crisis that started in the end of 2019. Several sanitary measures have been taken and forced us to adapt to the “new normal” where relationships had been most affected because of social distancing policies.

This pandemic had affected all human relations and had a huge impact in many business, forcing everybody to adapt to this new unforeseen reality.

Now the companies must preferred home office, many business travels had been postponed, meetings are virtual and the use of masks in closed places are mandatory.

How are companies recruiting during the pandemic?

During the pandemic employers are adapting their hiring processes switching in-person interviews to video however for some posts the face-to-face interviews are required in those cases some companies are taken different measures to comply with the sanitary policy, such as place the chairs at least 1.5m apart, avoid handshakes, offer hand sanitizing and offer a face shield to the candidate.

The main challenge for the recruiters during a in-person interview may be the reduced the ability to read emotions of a person wearing a mask in those cases a combination of eyes and body languages can be very helpful or offer a transparent face shield.

New Strategies

To overcome a VUCA world we need to believe in ourselves and in the strength and talent of our close peers, be bold and open to experimentation also accept failure or not being afraid to fail is sometimes the key to find creatives solutions to new problems and difficult situations we may face in the close future.
